When the drawer is about three-quarters of the way out, reach inside and push up on the front board of the little shelf.   This little board is held in place by a magnet on the left side, so it must be first pushed to the right before it can be lifted out.

Now the drawer can be pulled out to its fullest extent (after you get your fingers out of the way!).   And here is the secret compartment, directly behind the little drawer. If a leather liner is placed over the small shelf, it makes it much more difficult to find the hiding place.
I have made these in oak, cherry and walnut. Most are about twelve inches long by five by seven inches. Priced from $75 to $125. Click here to see what I have in stock right now.
