This little device is made entirely of white oak and resembles a miniature water pump of an old type. However, when the handle is cranked up and down on this little pump, a penny spits out of the spout, falls into the bucket below and disappears. This can be repeated indefinitely. The pump and stand is approximately nine inches tall. The body of the pump is about one and one half inches square. Each pump has two coats of varnish and should look good for many years without any care. It makes an interesting centerpiece or paperweight for the desk.
The drawing to the right shows how the pump works. This is a simplified cross-section, of course, but you get the idea. Six pennies remain inside the pump at all times. The seventh penny goes to the bottom of the stack and when the column is raised by the lift rod, the extra penny drops out at the top.
